Ideas
I come from Taiwan, a small island located in Asia; a place where I am proud of; a place where I feel belonged to. I had never imagined that homesickness will create such a dramatic impact on me. Stepping out of my comfort zone, I decided to study abroad in Hawaii, a place where I am unfamiliar with. Finding myself lost in this second life, I started to be grateful of my previous life, the place where I belonged to - Taiwan. I started to look back and be grateful for the culture, festivals, food, family, friends...everything that seems so little before coming here realizing how crucial these can be as a part of me. As I conduct more research, the more I want to combine these ideas with my passion - art. Looking through my photo album, memories popped up in my mind. Throughout the brainstorming, I decided to be focusing on everything about Taiwan. I came up with the idea that I will be creating a huge canvas with the basic outline of Taiwan filled in with the symbols, cultures, festivals, food, my family and friends… by painting a series of artwork and putting it all together.
My goal is to create a huge piece of artwork using three canvas acting like puzzles in which each canvas has ⅓ of the outline of Taiwan but each filled with different elements. First with the cultures and festivals of Taiwan, the second one with the symbols representing my family, myself, and my friends, on top listing out some special dates that are crucial for me. Lastly, the third one will be filled with the Taiwanese food and historical sites.
